Breaking Equity - An App for Algo Trading

Feb 28, 2022

What is Breaking Equity?

Breaking Equity is a service for setting up algorithmic trading for professionals and enthusiasts. The interface is designed to be as simple as possible, allowing users to easily build their own trading bots that will trade on their behalf and connect to all major exchanges with a single click. We began our collaboration when the platform was created and needed a stable and predictable incoming traffic.

Objectives:

  • Set up analytics on the website and within the application

  • Regularly create content

  • Implement email marketing

  • Introduce a referral system

  • Set up paid advertising

*Some data cannot be disclosed due to an NDA.

Stage 1 - Setting Up Analytics

We created a Google Analytics account and connected it to all possible entry points for new and returning users on the platform. Sources were tracked using UTM tags. Within the account, we set up triggers that users would complete to achieve certain conversions we defined. This allowed us to:

  1. Know the source and specific ad that brought the user to the site.

  2. Track how many times a user visited the site after their first visit.

  3. Determine the time required for a user to register.

  4. Identify actions within the application that led users to either drop off or become paying customers.

This information enabled us to:

  • Optimize the advertising campaign to find the best-performing ad combinations.

  • Modify the website to improve conversion rates.

  • Guide users through the application, giving them the necessary time to decide on a purchase.

Stage 2 - Content Creation

We implemented a system to produce posts and articles for the website and social media on a weekly basis. Special emphasis was placed on Twitter (X). The posts aimed to address the concerns of new users and those on a free subscription considering a paid package. Regular work in this area cannot be underestimated.

Stage 3 - Email Marketing

We set up an email marketing system using Active Campaign. We connected to the existing user database and integrated it with the database of new users to collect their email addresses for newsletters. Over 100 emails were created during our work. Most of them were automated, triggered by specific actions. For example, a promo code was sent on the user's birthday. If a user’s subscription was about to expire or had not been renewed, a follow-up email encouraged them to purchase. This system operated automatically and required no supervision. Regular tasks included creating and sending new promotional emails or holiday greetings to the user base.

Stage 4 - Referral System

We implemented a referral system using Growsurf, chosen for its suitable integration with our existing database. The system assigned a referral link to users upon registration and sent rewards for new sign-ups from their referrals. This approach aimed to reduce customer acquisition costs by allocating part of the advertising budget directly to users rather than purchasing new users through advertising platforms. This system was also prepared for collaboration with bloggers. Bloggers were given unique referral links and compensated for new registrations they generated. This automated system required no supervision.

Stage 5 - Paid Advertising

We needed to establish a stable paid traffic source with a controlled registration cost. We chose Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter (X), and Instagram. The goal was to test various advertising formats and sources to keep the registration cost below a set threshold while maintaining a high conversion rate to paid users after registration. We created numerous ad visuals designed to attract clicks and bring users to the site. These users then entered a retargeting system, seeing additional ads for 14 days after their first interaction. After a month of testing, we found a reliable source that maintained lead quality even with increased advertising budgets. We stabilized this successful approach while continuously searching for new ones in case the previous method’s effectiveness declined.

Stage 6 - Working with Bloggers

Having already set up the referral system, we reached out to bloggers in the trading and algo-trading niche to present our payment system. We successfully collaborated with dozens of bloggers, redirecting part of our advertising budget to gain trusted users. Such users were among the most reliable. We formed a partnership with @SpartanTrading, even sending joint email newsletters to our user base with his personalized promo code.

Conclusion

We successfully created a sustainable system for attracting new users in a specific niche and established a communication system with new and existing users that required minimal oversight. The analytics set up from the beginning allowed our team and the project team to make data-driven decisions based on user behavior, saving unnecessary marketing expenses.
